Cholesterol And Your Memory

Cholesterol has gotten a bad rap over the years.

From what you’ve read, what your doctor has told you, what you see and hear on the news, from all the hype for you to get cholesterol screening tests, you’d think that cholesterol is a villain to be avoided at all cost.

The message most people hear loud and clear is …

  • You need to lower your cholesterol as much as possible.
  • Above 200 is too high.
  • Avoid eating foods high in cholesterol.
  • High cholesterol causes heart disease.
  • If it creeps up over 200 take statins.

What you’re not being told is …

  • Cholesterol is a major part of every cell in your body.
  • Your brain is rich in cholesterol.
  • Large amounts of cholesterol are required for the developing brain – in the fetus and infant.
  • Poor eyesight and brain function result in children who do not get enough cholesterol as infants.
  • The myelin sheath that surrounds all the nerves in your body is 20% cholesterol.
  • Your body needs cholesterol for a healthy brain and nervous system.

Bottom line …

Avoiding cholesterol is harmful to your health.

Too little cholesterol can make learning difficult and cause memory loss.

In fact, one of the side effects of cholesterol-lowering drugs is memory loss.

In his book, Lipitor Thief of Memory, Dr. Duane Graveline chronicles his experience with memory loss on cholesterol-lowering drugs and how he saved his memory by stopping the drugs and eating an abundance of cholesterol-rich foods.

Cholesterol is necessary for your brain to function. If you deprive your brain of the vital nutrients it needs to do its job, it will malfunction. As we age, it is commonly thought that memory loss is part of the process. But it doesn’t have to be. If you’re not eating cholesterol-rich foods, you are depriving your brain and nervous system of essential nutrients they need for optimal performance.

Here are some cholesterol-rich foods that will help you keep your brain and nervous system healthy …

  • Chicken Liver
  • Chicken Giblets
  • Eggs
  • Beef Liver
  • Turkey Giblets
  • Butter
  • Pork Liver Sausage
  • Shrimp
  • Sardines
  • Heavy Cream
  • Veal
  • Pork Ribs
  • Lamb
  • Turkey Neck
  • Pork Shoulder
  • Beef Chuck
  • Lard
  • Crab
  • Duck Meat
  • Salmon

Organic, grass-fed, free range, wild seafood is always your best choice rather than factory farmed land or sea animals.
