Do Genetically Modified Foods Cause Digestive Problems?

The number one symptom that improves (when removing genetically modified foods from the diet) is gastrointestinal problems.”  Learn more

– Jeffrey Smith
The Digestion Sessions

Did you know that sixty-percent of the Unites States population alone is dealing with at least one symptom of digestive dysfunction?

You name it — gas, bloating, heartburn, abdominal pain, candida, constipation, diarrhea — the statistics say that YOU are more than likely experiencing one or more of them, right now at this very moment.

Living with digestive problems has become the new normal. Typically, they begin as minor complaints — a little indigestion here and there, the occasional tummy ache or bout of heartburn.

Sooner or later, what was once a minor annoyance becomes something that can literally take over your life. This usually happens for two reasons — embarrassment and ignorance.

Let me explain.

Let’s be honest, no one goes out of their way to talk about their digestive problems. What happens on the other side of the bathroom door has become the most taboo of topics, a private matter requiring the utmost discretion.

Unfortunately, there is no “bathroom therapist” office to sit in safety and speak freely about your bowel issues. Instead, you keep it to yourself and hope it will all go away with time.

It doesn’t.

And that’s when you find yourself in the doctor’s office, finally revealing every detail of what you’ve been going through for months, maybe years.

At some point during this cathartic act of courage you realize that you’ve used up all 12 minutes of your allotted appointment time and suddenly find yourself in the pharmacy with a prescription for a drug that comes with two pages of side effects.

No exam. No testing. No investigation whatsoever into what may be causing your symptoms.

Just ignorance in the form of a pill.

What now?

THAT is the very question hundreds of millions of people worldwide are asking about their digestive problems.

Today, I’ve come with the answer.

The truth is that “modern day” medicine has fallen as much as 17 years behind the latest research. In other words, almost two decades will pass before your doctor recommends what actually works.

Chances are, your doc is unaware of the growing number of research studies demonstrating these alarming findings:

– The toxicity of persistent constipation may cause common, everyday symptoms like fatigue, attention deficit, and brain fog.

– Autoimmune conditions like Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, rheumatoid arthritis, and multiple sclerosis are almost always rooted in digestive dysfunction.

– The inflammation from gut dysfunction can spread throughout the body, causing inflammation in the brain, joints, and other important organs.

By the way, inflammation in the gut may also shut down your body’s ability to burn fat. Not good.

Most doctors are either unaware of this information or don’t care to know. Meanwhile, people like you are paying the price in unnecessary suffering and medical bills.

This has to stop. Now.

And that’s why our friend Sean Croxton of Underground Wellness — a real life health crusader —  put together a FREE online event called The Digestion Sessions, featuring 25 on-camera expert interviews and gut-healing cooking classes on all things digestion — so you can get the answers you’ve been looking for. What’s Up With Your Digestion?

Do you experience occasional digestive discomfort, or is it a regular occurrence?

Do you have bloating, belching, constipation, diarrhea, GERD or IBS?

What have you done to resolve your digestive issues?

Drugs are not the answer. They only temporarily calm the symptoms. And all drugs have side effects. So for the little bit of short term relief, until you eat again, you’re contributing to more serious health problems to come down the road.

Deborah had constant digestive problems … bloating, alternating constipation and diarrhea and just feeling awful every time she ate. She cleaned up her diet so that she was eating only healthy food, but that didn’t help. She was at wits end. No matter what she did, and she was trying everything healthy, every time she ate, she felt miserable.

When Deborah came to see me, I suggested Food Sensitivity Testing. We tested for 200 Foods + 50 Functional Foods & Herbs. When her report came back, I was quite surprised that she only had a very short list of sensitive foods.

Not surprisingly, she was intolerant to some of the foods she loved and was eating every day, like asparagus and walnuts. Foods she chose to eat not only because she liked them, but also because they’re healthy foods. But these normally healthy foods are not healthy for Deborah.

She went on her rotation diet, avoiding her sensitive foods and eating only safe foods. In less than a week she told me she was feeling great! All those years of feeling miserable every time she ate … gone … just by avoiding foods she was sensitive to.

My story is a little different.

I had been taking digestive enzymes for about 30 years. If I didn’t take them I suffered, mostly from bloating, gas and passing undigested food in my stool. When I did the food sensitivity testing on myself, I wasn’t even thinking about my digestion. After all, I had it under control, taking my digestive enzymes every time I ate.

When my report came back, I had a very long list of sensitive foods, including salmon, trout, kiwi, grapefruit, potatoes, red leaf lettuce, romaine lettuce, bell peppers, papayas, pineapple, apples and more.

I had been taking a lot of whole food supplements, spending about $200/month. The majority of these supplements, that were supposed to be helping me, contained ingredients that I was sensitive to. This would explain why I had reached a plateau in achieving the level of health I wanted. Even my tried and true digestive enzyme, that I never ate a meal without, contained ingredients to which I was intolerant.

What was I going to do?

I couldn’t stop my digestive enzymes. That would be a disaster!

I found a replacement I could take. I took it for a week or two and then noticed some burning in my stomach. I brushed it off, thinking I was just detoxifying – that happens when you eliminate your sensitive foods. The burning pain persisted, so after a couple days, I wondered if my body was producing enough enzymes on its own, something I never believed could happen for me.

So, I stopped taking the digestive enzymes. It took up to a week for the burning to completely stop. I had no digestive symptoms after I stopped taking the enzymes. One day, a couple weeks later, after dinner I had a little bloating. I took one enzyme. I haven’t taken any since. It’s probably been a couple months. My digestion is working just fine – without taking any digestive enzymes. This is after 30 years of needing to take them every day with every meal.

Not only am I not taking the digestive enzymes, I am not spending $200/month on supplements any more. I take 4 supplements now instead of 15. And I feel better. I feel my body healing.

Are you feeling less healthy than you would like? Do you have some unresolved health issues that you would like to get to the bottom of and eliminate once and for all?

Research has shown that 30-90% of people in our society have food sensitivities. As long as you eat foods you’re sensitive to, you will continue to create inflammation in your body and your health will decline.

Are you ready to take charge of your health? Do you want to feel better now?

Do You Take Antacids?

Do you know that most cases of GERD or acid indigestion are caused not by too much acid, but by too little of the right acid that your body needs?

Your stomach should be highly acidic, pH of about 2, in order to be able to digest protein foods. If your body does not produce enough acid to digest your food, it will putrefy in your stomach and cause the formation of the wrong kind of acid. This causes the symptoms of burning in your stomach or acid reflux.

If you use antacids, or prescription medication to treat your symptoms, it reduces the acidity of your stomach even more and reduces your body’s ability to digest your food. More food putrefies in your stomach, causing more acid indigestion or acid reflux.

Take more acid blockers … and you can see how this will just keep getting worse and worse. Antacids and proton pump inhibitors do not solve your problem. They only make it worse.

In addition, a low acid stomach contributes to a whole host of other health issues like ulcers, inflammatory bowel disease, leaky gut syndrome, mineral deficiencies, chronic malabsorption, anemia and more.

So, how do you help yourself out of this situation?

Give up processed foods. Processed foods contain chemicals that were never intended for human consumption.

Eat real food. Your body was designed to thrive on real food.

What is real food? Real food is grown in nature and meant for human consumption. It can be plant or animal. Animal foods should be raised humanely … pastured, free range, grass fed. Plant foods should be free of chemical pesticides.

If you find that you’re still having trouble digesting your food when you’re eating real food, you may need to support your digestive system. You can start with using about a tablespoon of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar in a quarter cup of water before you eat to stimulate your digestion. If you don’t like the sour taste, you can add about a  teaspoon of raw, organic, local honey.

If that doesn’t do the job, you may need digestive enzymes or have some other associated health issues.

In this case, it might be a good idea to get some help from an alternative health care professional who not only has experience in this area, but who is also able to help you balance your body chemistry through the use of diet and whole food supplements.
