Hospitals … The Worst Place To Be If You’re Sick

Here are a few statistics taken from an article in the March 2012 AARP Bulletin

  • U.S. surgeons operate on the wrong person or wrong body parts as often as 40 times a week.
  • As many as 100,000 Americans die in hospitals every year from preventable medical mistakes.
  • Hospital staff don’t report 86% of harm done to patients.
  • The number of patients who die each year from hospital errors is equal to 4 jumbo jets crashing each week.
  • One in 7 Medicare patients died or were harmed by their hospital care.
  • One in three admissions to hospitals results in some kind of harm to the patient.
  • Only about half of hospital workers follow hand washing guidelines.

Your best bet … stay healthy so you don’t need to go into a hospital!

Here are some tips to get healthier or to keep yourself healthy  …

Eat healthy food. Not just any healthy food … food that is healthy for you. You may be surprised to learn that not all food that is considered healthy may be healthy for you. And if you eat those unhealthy-for-you healthy foods, you will NOT be healthy.

Take whole food supplements customized to your body’s needs.

Drink pure, clean water … at least half your body weight in ounces, i.e. if you weigh 150 pounds, you should drink at least 75 ounces of water a day.

Exercise regularly. Get off the couch, get away from the computer and move your body.

Reduce your stress level. Do something to relax yourself to the core … meditation, deep breathing, Tai Chi. Find something that helps you de-stress.

Get adequate sleep.

Have a positive mental attitude.
